The ocean-going submarine Leonardo DA VINCI is the most famous Italian vessel in the Battle of the Atlantic. It holds several Italian records: the greatest tonnage sunk (120,237 tons with 17 successes), the large ship sunk (the liner s/s EMPRESS OF CANADA of 21,517 tons) and the record of sinkings in an only patrol (six ships sunk for a total of 58,967 tons).

Absolutely, in the history of the Italian Navy, the submarine DA VINCI is second only to the submarine SCIRE' that seriously damaged two British battleships in the Mediterranean.
